SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS WITH CONNECTION TO MACHUPICCHU 2 DAYS

THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS

This beautiful valley in the Peruvian Andes has the most important river, the Uubamba River, and other rivers that descend through ravines and small valleys, very special geographical and climatic qualities for the Inca culture. The Incas or Quechuas turned THE SACRED VALLEY OF THE INCAS into one of the main points of agricultural production due to the wealth of their lands. The Sacred Valley is one of the richest places since it produces the best corn grain. We can also appreciate colonial towns, which show their mixture, architecture, art and living culture.

Machu Picchu (“Old Mountain”) is the contemporary name given to a LLAQTA—ancient town built before the 15th century, located in the eastern Cordillera of southern Peru, in the Andes mountain range and located on 2430 m.s.n.m.

It is located in the region of Cusco, province of Urubamba on the Sacred Valley of the Incas, 80 kilometers northeast of the city of Cusco, city of Peru and through which the Urbamba River flows. According to many scholars, its original name would have been Llaqtapata. .

Machu Picchu was declared a Peruvian Historical Sanctuary in 1981 and has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1983, as part of an entire cultural and ecological complex known as the Historical Sanctuary of Machupicchu, on July 7, 2007. Machu Picchu was declared one of the seven wonders of the modern world.

According to documents from the mid-16th century, it had a private character. However, some of its best constructions and the evident ceremonial character of the main access road to the llaqta or citadel tells of its origin prior to Pachacutec and its presumed use as a religious sanctuary. Both uses, that of a palace and that of a sanctuary, would not have been incompatible. Even though its supposed military character is discussed, the popular adjectives “fortress” or “citadel” could have been surpassed.

Machu Picchu is considered, at the same time, a masterpiece of architecture and engineering. Its peculiar architectural and landscape characteristics, and the veil of mystery that has woven around it much of the literature published about the site, have made it become one of the most popular tourist destinations on the planet, as well as one of the 7th wonders of the world.
